How To Bet On Nfl Props

The NFL regular season is often focused on totals and sides, but with every betting site offering different wagering types, NFL props are becoming the go-to bet every Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and some Saturdays. Rather making moneyline wager or a traditional point spread bet, why not try something a little more entertaining? Making NFL Prop Bets requires skill and a little handicapping, but no worries because we are here to kick start your betting journey. An NFL prop bet is a wager that typically has nothing to do with a game outcome. NFL prop bets can be anything from how an individual player performs, how long the national anthem will be, which team will be winning the coin toss and even how many penalties a team will get. A prop is short term for proposition and these are bets that are generally made for entertainment purposes. At your online betting site of choice, NFL prop bets for a specific type of player would be something like:• How many touchdowns will he be throwing in the Saints’ game against the Falcons?• How many passing yards will he be having in the first quarter of a game against the Panthers?• Will he be throwing an interception against the Buccaneers? How to read NFL Prop Bet oddsWhen visiting any online sportsbook, you will find prop odds. Depending on the type of NFL props bettors are looking to make, the NFL odds will look something like this:Will Player A announce his retirement in the post-game interview?Yes +400No -900In such scenario, let’s assume that a star player is turning 45 and isn’t moving as fast as he used to. There are rumors that he is going to retire at some point during the current NFL season. Oddsmakers hear the same buzz that we do and will create NFL props based on that information. If you believe that Player A will announce his retirement after the game you’re betting on, you will choose Yes. Let’s say you lay down $25, and he does end his playing career. You would get a payout of $150 – your $25 comes back along with your winnings of $125.On the other hand, a winning $25 No bet would get you $27.50 – your original amount is returned plus the $2.50 you won. In this case, the Yes would be a riskier bet with a higher payoff because of the plus sign (+). A No bet comes with less risk and a smaller win due to the minus sign (-). This is the same as a traditional moneyline bet where you have an underdog and a favorite In this case, there is no favorite (-) or dog (+), but the same symbols signify which bet is riskier for gamblers. As your online sports betting skill improves, you can make more advanced NFL prop bets. Since NFL props are considered the more entertaining bets you can make on any regular-season matchup, the better you get at betting, the easier it is to find value in other prop wagers.

Unexploded bombs found in Beirut

Friday, February 23, 2007

In Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) found bomb-making equipment in three separate caches on Thursday, two days after a bomb was discovered in Beirut. This had stroke fears among many Lebanese who were still dramatized by recent bus bombings and street clashes. A wooden box, armed with nineteen TNT sticks, was found in Beirut’s Christian neighborhood, Achrafieh, by a scrap collector. The box was found in a dumpster on Hikmeh Avenue leading to Corniche al-Nahr, facing the Murr Television Station and the Mont Liban Radio building.

The box of TNT sticks was found approximately at 8:30 a.m. The police immediately rushed to the scene and cut off the city from the public to disarm the bomb.

Half an hour later, employees of Lebanon’s privatized waste management company, Sukleen, found an aluminum box packed with thirteen detonators. The box was found about 200 meters away from the wooden one.

By the end of the day, bombs were found on the road leading to the Kesrouan village of Ghbaleh, the National News Agency (NNA) reported. However, NNA stated that the bombs were not meant to explode. ISF’s investigation was immediately conducted.

Remote Assistance service of Windows OS vulnerable to attack

Tuesday, July 19, 2005

Until a patch is issued, Microsoft recommends that users close or block TCP port 3389, the port opened when the Remote Assistance service of its Microsoft Windows operating system (OS) is enabled. The Remote Assistance feature is a service of the OS that allows Internet Technology administrators of corporate workgroups remote access to other desktops to perform maintenance and other configuration tasks from their own computer. It can also be used by on-line tech support sites. A support assistant can go into a user’s machine, if the service is enabled, and themself make changes directly to another person’s computer to resolve an issue.

To initialize the remote assistance feature, the user of the helper computer must first make a request of the user of the target computer. Compliance must be granted by the user of the target machine, which then fully opens the communication port of the target machine to the helper computer. The operator of the helper computer then has control of target computer to make changes at will. The user of the target machine can watch in a separate window the actions of the helper, and either party to the session can end it at any time.

In a telephone conversation with a Microsoft representative Tuesday, it was learned that work to develop a security patch is underway, but when it will be available is unclear. It was cited that a patch must work consistently across multiple platform versions of the OS.

The vulnerability, thought at first to affect only Windows XP SP2, is now believed to affect all current Windows editions, including Windows 2000, Windows XP SP1, Windows XP Professional x64, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 SP1, and Windows Server x64.

The Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is not enabled by default, however if the service is enabled, a Denial of Service attack could cause the OS to restart unexpectedly according to Microsoft, or experience buffer overflows according to Symantec. The RDP is enabled by default on Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Microsoft suggests users block TCP port 3389 (the port used by RDP) on their firewall, or disable Terminal Services or Remote Desktop if not required by the user. The remote desktop connections could also be secured using either Internet Protocol Security or a virtual private network connection until a patch is ready.

To disable Remote Assistance on a Windows XP Edition, the steps are:

 1. click ‘Start’, right-click ‘My Computer’, select ‘Properties’
 2. select ‘Remote’ tab on top of the ‘Systems Properties’ window, clear checkbox that says “Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer.”
 3. click ‘Apply’ button

The group, Internet Storm Center, detected spikes in scanning for port 3389 beginning July 6. Larger numbers of systems scanned were reported on July 13. Crackers may be scanning for vulnerable machines, the group said.

“It’s a kernel vulnerability,” said VP of engineering for Symantec Alfred Huger, “so it will be difficult to exploit reliably. But he [the original discoverer] found the vulnerability with a commonly-used tool, so if he can find it, so can others. I don’t think it will turn it into a large-scale worm, but then, some kernel vulnerabilities have ended up as just that, like the Witty worm.”

Poisonous Foods To Avoid In Dog Cake Recipes

Poisonous Foods to Avoid in Dog Cake Recipes

by

Matthew Montgomery

Although there are some people foods out there that can be good for dogs, or at least merely safe, there are also ingredients that should be avoided at all costs. Smaller dogs fall ill should they ingest any of these ingredients due to their size. The most important thing to remember when using any ingredients in dog cake recipes or homemade dog food recipes is to introduce any ingredient in small amounts. That way, you can gauge the sensitivity of your pet and ensure their safety. With that in mind, below is a compilation of ingredients you should never, never even consider throwing in any dog cake recipes.

Baby Food

Baby food is often a popular choice in dog cake recipes because it is a mashed up version of vegetables and other nutrients that many owners may think that their dog needs. However, baby food may contain onions or onion powder, both of which are extremely toxic to dogs. Additionally, baby food contains excess sugar and salt which is foreign to a dog. Dog cake recipes should typically just steer clear of baby food for these potential pet health hazards.

Liver

Liver is one of those ingredients that is based on proportionality to determine whether or not it is toxic. For this reason, many owners should feel uncomfortable including it in their dog cake recipes or homemade dog food recipes. Large amounts of cooked liver can cause vitamin A toxicity. Mind you this would be caused only by very large amounts, but determining this threshold is difficult depending on the size of a dog. Just for safety reasons, avoid using liver in any of your meaty dog cake recipes.

Macadamia Nuts and Walnuts

A lot of owners like to incorporate macadamia nuts and walnuts for a little crunch in their dog cake recipes. Unfortunately, these are two ingredients known to be toxic to dogs. They contain many unknown toxins that can cause anything from muscle weakness, to paralysis. It is also a good idea to stay away from other nuts in your dog cake recipes because they contain high amounts of salt and fat, both of which can be harmful to animals.

Salt, Sugar and Sweeteners

The fact of the matter is that dogs have a lot less taste buds than humans. Salt, sugar and sweeteners, therefore, are just unnecessary additives in dog cake recipes or homemade dog food recipes that do little more than increase the chances of health complications. In large amounts, salt can lead to kidney issues in dogs and poses the risk for sodium ion toxicity. Additionally, too much sugar can cause hypoglycemia, obesity and tooth decay. Because there is really no purpose for any of these ingredients, avoid them at all costs.

With so many falsehoods out there surrounding ingredients that are ok and are not ok to give to dogs, it is always better to err on the side of caution. If you find multiple sources that state that an ingredient is ok to use in your dog cake recipes, use it with confidence. If the results are mixed, however, try to stay as far away from it as possible. Treats are meant to be a healthy reward, not a health hazard waiting to happen. By avoiding the ingredients listed above, you can be on the right track to making healthy treats your dog will love.

Rhode Island District Court freezes Palestinian Authority assets in the US

Wednesday, August 31, 2005

A Rhode Island district court has frozen all the US assets of the Palestinian Authority (PA), prompting Palestinian finance minister Salam Fayyad to request the aid of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The frozen assets include US holdings in an investment fund worth $1.3 billion, which was used to finance economic development, and $30 million from the Palestinian Monetary Authority.

The ruling was passed upon the PA when they refused to compensate the relatives of a Jewish couple shot dead by members of Hamas in 1996.

US citizen Yaron Ungar and his wife Efrat were killed while returning from a wedding near the West Bank, when their car was shot at repeatedly, killing the couple. Three Hamas militants were jailed as a result.

A lawsuit was filed in 2000 against the Palestinian Authority, the PLO, Hamas, and Yasser Arafat in Rhode Island.

Yasser Arafat hired lawyer and former attorney general Ramsey Clark as his defense. In the case, Clark argued that the PA was a sovereign state, and that it deserved immunity from prosecution accorded to most countries. The court disagreed with this, and in 2004 they ruled that Palestine is not a state, and ordered them to pay the Ungars $116 million. A federal appeals court upheld the verdict in March.

The head of Washington’s PA office, Hasan Abdul Rahman said that his office had been “paralysed” by the verdict.

“It paralyzes the function of the office, and I think that is the intention of the plaintiffs.” he told Associated Press shortly after the decision, and called upon the US administration to intervene.

Cyprus seeks EU bailout

Monday, June 25, 2012

Cyprus today became the fifth member state to seek access to funds from the European Union’s bailout fund. The Cypriots join Spain, Ireland, Portugal, and neighbours Greece.

The move was triggered after the Cyprus Popular Bank, the nation’s second-largest bank, asked the government for recapitalisation. The bank has been hit hard, as has the wider Cypriot banking sector, by exposure to Greek economics. A Greek restructure of €200 billion in debt has caused the bank a €3.65 billion loss, and money is being lost on loans domestically and to Greek customers.

Cyprus Popular Bank chairman Michalis Sarris today revealed talks are also underway with China about a possible loan. Low taxes and regulation have attracted large amounts of foreign money to Cyprus, including much Russian money, producing a banking sector far larger than most nations that size. Russia and China are both viewed by officials as possibilities to seek loans from, and Russia last year agreed to a €2.5 billion loan to allow Cypriot financial restructuring.

The bailout request comes within days of Cypriot president Demetris Christofias giving an interview to Greek newspaper To Vima in which the EU’s only communist leader criticised international bailout policies. He complained the European Commission, European Central Bank, and International Monetary Fund acted like a “colonial force” by forcing nations receiving bailouts to agree to austerity measures.

Cyprus, due to take over the rotating EU presidency this week, hopes to limit the scope of its bailout to the banking sector. This is similar to Spain, and unlike the other bailed-out nations. Ratings agency Fitch today relegated Cyprus to “junk”, a reflection of how much money may be required.

“The purpose of the required assistance is to contain the risks to the Cypriot economy, notably those arising from the negative spillover effects through its financial sector, due to its large exposure in the Greek economy,” read a government statement. Former President George Vasiliou, an economist, recently claimed markets were failing to recognise the differences between Greece and Cyprus: “Cyprus’s problems are the result of a Greek tragedy, and the ratings agencies are not distinguishing between Greek-speaking people, whether we are in Athens or Nicosia”.

Cyprus has recently discovered large natural gas fields, and unemployment at 10% is below the likes of Greece (22%) and Spain (24%). Cypriot officials predict a growth in the economy, although the International Monetary Fund expects a contraction. There are also concerns a Greek withdrawal from the euro would damage confidence in investors, but Vasiliou predicts “if Greece has to exit the euro, it will not be the end of Cyprus.”

High Tech Public Relations: Happy 25th Birthday

High tech public relations: Happy 25th birthday

by

Wendi Rogers

Public relations was born over a drink at a swanky NYC nightclub on 50th Street in the 1930s. Strategy: Alluring debutantes were posed and photographed with their heads thrown back in glee, cigarettes dangling from their fingertips, selling glamour to entice the part of the public – women — who didn’t smoke. It worked. The gossip columnists went gaga and ran back to their typewriters and a 2 AM deadline. Sales shot up.

PR was a man in a teddy bear costume at a 1950s auto parts trade show. He was the mascot on the logo for a muffler company, his photo taken with his huge paw around traveling salesmen who stopped at the muffler company’s booth. (I have a photo for every year my father attended the show. My father aged over a series of photos but the giant teddy bear always remained the same.) Tech public relations was born over a cup of coffee in a SFO caf?. A journalist and an MIT engineer decided to ditch their day jobs. They put up a shingle and started talking to the papers and the public about the tech companies sprouting on a spot on the map in a farming area that became Silicon Valley. In an industry that started with testimonials on soap powder and ribbon cutting and WOM (word of mouth), turned into thousands of high tech public relations agencies in California, Texas, Chicago, New York and everywhere in between, then jumped across the pond to London, where tech public relations happened over drinks and cigarettes. Instead of debutantes, tech public relations was the new chic: enterprise software, apps, servers, security, consumer electronics. And green tech, and medical devices and mobile. Hollywood had Marilyn. The tech world had IBM. The big shots in PR saw a growth industry and spun off – and are still spinning off – tech divisions. Some of them got hungry and waltzed into off markets and snapped up all the little tech PR shops so that they could control the entire tech PR scene. In one country, a major U.S. PR agency gobbled 49 competing boutique tech PR agencies. Public relations is such a hot commodity that the major advertising agencies are going into tech PR too. Then there was the specialization scramble. If there were enough clients – maybe 2-3 – in a specific sector, an agency could claim this was their niche. Most backed off because a niche means that one client’s tech could bump into another and raise conflict of issue issues, the bane of an agency’s life. The cardinal rule: “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” The London boutique agencies tried to convince themselves while convincing potential clients that their agencies had Chinese walls. Germany stepped in, Spain, France, a sprinkling in Scandinavia. Italy is still trying to catch up. (You can’t be a tech nation if only 4 percent of your population speaks English. On the other hand, they look so good while they’re speaking Italian.) South Africa is solid, and the rest of Africa is slowly catching up. China? What started with a handful of tech PR agencies is now a growth industry. India went from two high tech PR agencies to dozens in less than two years. Japan makes cars but their tech scene and high tech PR are locked inside a language bubble and they’re still trying to figure out what tech marketing and PR is all about. The heyday, when anyone anywhere with an idea and maybe, just maybe a patent, with a lawyer right behind him (the hers are still catching up), contributed to the high tech PR crescendo. The last two notes were “ta-da” before the bubble burst. From a green pea farm field grew Google, and venture capitalists and their pricey one-week yacht vacations, from a shingle came enough shingles to cover the San Francisco Bay Bridge, and now the new terminology as tech PR agencies hire “engagement officers” to scoop up Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Tech PR is still a growth industry. Employees leave their brand name agencies, open their own high tech PR operations and wait for the next tech swing forward. The only thing that’s changed is PR took the cigarettes out of debutantes’ fingers, replaced the debutantes with super models and actresses, and shoved a bottle of designer water or vodka into their hands. The coffee became Starbucks and the journalist and the MIT engineer? They retired and their children graduated with phones firmly implanted in their fingertips.

Food with cancer-causing dye recalled in Britain

Saturday, April 30, 2005

The British Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced a recall of foods containing banned dyes which increase the risk of cancer. The food products were sold at the Tesco, Waitrose, and Somerfield supermarkets.

A Bristol company called “Barts Spices” found the illegal Para Red substance in their Barts Ground Paprika, which was sold in 48g and 46g jars with a “Co-op” label. The batch codes on the affected products are 5032 and 5089 (expiration Dec 2007), and 5075 (expiration February 2007).

Tesco also found that their 130g package of BBQ rice cakes (expiration November and December 2005) contained both Para Red and Sudan I.

“It would be very prudent to assume that it could be a genotoxic carcinogen,” FSA scientific advisers told reporters.

“As a company committed to supplying only the very finest quality food ingredients, we took the immediate decision to withdraw our ground paprika spice from all outlets selling the product and advertised a product recall in the national press,” a Barts Spices spokesman said in a statement.

Sudan I is only authorized for industrial use to colorize petroleum products, such as shoe polish. Para Red and Sudan I are banned under the British Colours in Food Regulations of 1995.

Britain last went through a major food recall in February, when Worcester Sauce was found to contain chili powder dyed with Sudan 1.

NZ Sky TV customers to get refund for satellite failure

Saturday, April 1, 2006

On Thursday night, a failure of the Optus B1 satellite affected the Sky Pay TV network and also caused a blackout of other satellite-based systems. Sky TV subscribers will get a refund for the inconvenience.

The satellite was down from Thursday evening to Friday morning. It also covers international emergency service and air traffic coordination. However, thanks to backup services, no serious effects were caused.

Satellite experts and astronomers questioned Sky’s explanation that the solar eclipse had hampered attempts to get the service back up and running – the eclipse happened nearly 24 hours before the outage, and thus the satellite should have been in a different area of the sky. A spokesman of Sky TV said the problem occurred because the eclipse happened at the moment the sun was required to charge the satellite’s batteries for a routine realignment.

The pay TV company is considering paying compensation to advertising customers as well.
